Painting over Dark Colors in Rockwall, Texas

How do you paint over dark colors in Rockwall or Greenville, Texas?

We have all faced it, staring at the wall we have painted three times and still that hard to cover red is still shining through! This is a common problem and one that I personally have faced. That being said if you begin with the right knowledge in place it can alleviate much of the stress of interior painting right here in Twin Falls!

Below I will includes some steps or different options.

1. A good interior painting job always begins with preparation. Ensure that all nails are out of the wall and filled with painters putty. Tape off the baseboards so flecking does get onto them unless you will paint those as well. Then lay out plastic or drop cloths so there is no spilling or drips on the carpet or hardwood. (You would be surprised how easy it is for those starting out to step in those drops of paint and walk though the house with it, beware.)

2. Prime- Always prime and you can never go wrong (when transitioned from a dark to light), it does not need to be a fancy primer. A simple PVA sheetrock primer will be sufficient for interior painting. (For exterior you will need an exterior primer.)

3. Paint once and then do it again to ensure a quality finish. It is possible to do only one coat but two is always best if possible. Painting at C3 Customer Solutions in Twin Falls we faced this problem, we were transitioning from a sharp red (think fire engine) to a stark clean white. Yet with a coat of PVA primer and a single coat of Sherman Williams Cashmere paint results were without a shade of red showing through. A note of caution on the paint selection, do not buy cheap paint and expect quality results. We only recommend Sherman Williams paint, not only do they provide quality paint, but they have excellent customer service as well. I have heard of a painter friend of mine who painted over three coats of paint on one wall due to cheap paint and it still didn't cover.
